Aronia Berry (also known as Black Chokeberry) is a dark purple berry measuring about 5-9 millimeters in diameter and are more commonly known and used in European countries including Poland, Germany, Finland and Romania to name a few. Its fast-growing notoriety and use here in North America is largely due to the high antioxidant value ORAC scores of 7300mm per gram, one of the highest values of all red and black berries. In other words, 100 grams of fresh berries contain about 1,480 milligrams of anthocyanins, and the amount of proanthocyanidins is more like 664 mg per 100 grams.
The ultra rich colouring of the Aronia Berry Powder contains some of the highest phenolic flavonoid phytochemicals, called anthocyanins that show a high ability to penetrate cell membranes and provide protection.
